DIY Amla Hair Oil

DIY Amla Hair Oil

What would possess you to make Amla hair oil at home? Market bought Amla oil can contain many undesirable ingredients such as refined oils, artificial colouring, and preservatives, which often do more harm than good. When you make Amla oil yourself, you can be assured of its purity.

This method is the easiest and quickest way and we promise you that your hair will look healthier and shinier after applying this oil. For more information on the benefits of Amla, check out this article.

You will need:

5 fresh Amla fruits (they can also be frozen)

1 tablespoon extra virgin coconut oil

Remove the pits and grate or blend the Amla. Then using a sieve or a muslin cloth squeeze out the juice. The juice to oil ratio should be about 1:1

Wisk the coconut oil together with Amla juice, so that it is well combined about 4-5 minutes, and you are done.

If you want to make a bigger batch you can, but make sure you store the oil in the fridge and it will keep for up to 2 weeks.

To use

Warm the mixture till coconut oil melts completely and is warm to the touch. Comb your hair first, because combing afterwards can cause unnecessary breakage. Then apply it to your scalp and massage gently using your finger pads. Run fingers through hair to saturate the strands.

How long you should leave the oil in your hair will depend on how much time you have, but we recommend at least one hour. If you have more time, wrap your hair in a towel or shower cap and leave it overnight and then shampoo as usual, feel free to skip the conditioner.

Not enough hours in the day? It's OK we understand. Check out our favourite Amla Oil.
